Accept Your Humanity
When you take the plunge into the world of blogging, it may appear to be something that is extremely easy to do, pick a topic, write about it, format the entry, slap a category and a few tags onto it, and hit Publish. Simple, right?
It is, actually…but it’s also just as easy to start generating content that may have no true intention within it other than to just get another post out there and update the post count of one’s blog.
If you’re an avid blogger, or even an everyday web rider, you’re more than looking for websites or blogs that not only have useful content in them, but there is substance and you can almost feel the actual passion that someone has placed into the words you are reading.
Readers and visitors can tell, immediately, when information is canned or when it’s fresh and meaningful.
Write For Your Audience, Not Your Analytics
Sure, it’s good to pull in new readers on a daily basis and I have similar goals, but at the same time, something I’ve always believed in is that we are to aim for “Quality over Quantity”. Much like one of my keys in using Twitter appropriately, it’s best to aim for those readers that will truly benefit from your material and will most likely be back, over and over again. If you’re selling your own products, this is even more important as although the percentage for actual purchase is already low, why market golf balls to photographers?
When you start writing just to write, you may risk writing without that much needed substance and value in your posts. Not only that, you also risk losing your own passion and desire to keep moving forward and keeping yourself in line with your own purpose. You then risk losing focus and may start making some serious blogging mistakes that you may not be able to recover from. When that happens, you simply become a robot and your blogging mind goes numb, which will quickly become a horrible injustice to your readers.
Keep Yourself Motivated
Yes, your blog is your domain (pardon the pun) and you should have free reign to do whatever you want within such an arena. However, if you’re truly looking to provide value and and uniqueness, take advantage of the opportunity you have in front of you. You have a story and that story may truly be able to inspire or help others so feel good about that and use the positivity to your advantage and keep chugging along. Your own unique opinion can be added to almost any subject that you have interest in so don’t be afraid of not being able to generate content. Just don’t lose yourself in the process.
